Zielinski's pick: Unsung Hero
Lightning fans are making their choices for their Fan's Choices Awards now through May 19th. Bolts Beat Reporter Missy Zielinski chimes in with her choice for each of the awards.
Here's her selection for Unsung Hero
A member of the gritty and hard-hitting fourth line, forward Nate Thompson is a player head coach Jon Cooper frequently depended on when it came to showing teams the Lightning had some bite, even when the scoreboard told a different story. Considered one of the leaders in the physical movement, Thompson’s style of play was a critical concept for the Bolts this season and was one of the main reasons he was selected as an alternate captain by Cooper at the beginning of the year. It also forced teams to take in consideration the Lightning had a new persona that included standing up for the player next to them.
Runner-up: Anders Lindback
Home ice was something the Lightning put heavy emphasis on after clinching a playoff spot at the beginning of April and Anders Lindback’s dazzling 3-0-0 record with a 0.67 goals-against average and .975 save percentage and one shutout during the last leg of the regular season helped paved the way. Also during that stretch, Lindback and the team in front of him finally seemed to display confidence in one another and started to develop chemistry, something that had been missing earlier in the year.
