Lightning trade up to take forward Brayden Point in third round
The Lightning selected forward Brayden Point with the No. 79 overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft being held in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA - The Tampa Bay Lightning traded its third-round pick (80th overall) for the Minnesota Wild’s 79th pick to select forward Brayden Point.

“There are a lot of nerves and you wonder if you’re going to get picked,” Point said. “When you’re finally chosen it’s a really good feeling. I’m really happy I was picked by Tampa.”

Point played 72 games with the Western Hockey League's Moose Jaw Warriors during the 2013-14 campaign, recording 91 points (36 goals, 55 assists). The center also added two assists in four games with Canada during the World Championships Under-18 tournament this year.

"My offense is one of the better parts of my game," Point said. "I think whatever people take from my game is what I produce. Defensively I also need to work on stuff and I'm going to try to focus on that."

The Wild also receive the Lightning’s seventh-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, which the Bolts acquired in Friday’s trade for blueliner Jason Garrison.
