Lightning Foundation

The Lightning Foundation is dedicated to the support of local organizations that enrich the lives of those living throughout the Tampa Bay community.  In gratitude for the support and passion of our community, the Foundation will focus its unique resources to advance amateur hockey and educational enrichment opportunities for children, along with medical research and treatment for those in need.  Our "GOAL" is to make Tampa Bay a better place to live, work and play!

BlueCross BlueShield of Florida Fit Families For Life

Pulling together a dynamic health collaborative, The Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida designed and funded an 18-week course for the sixth grade boys and girls that complemented their fall running program initiated by The Lightning Foundation. The Children’s Board of Hillsborough County also contributed funds towards the course. Kicking off with a student knowledge assessment, students gobbled up both the healthy snacks and the healthy living know-how shared by an incredible group of partner volunteers and staff.


Pink Hat Project: 
For the Pink Hat Project, unique Lightning ball caps were designed for the Foundation.  The pink hat features the Lightning logo and an embroidered breast cancer awareness ribbon.  The project began in February 2005 with a Pink Hat Luncheon to kickoff the selling campaign and continued throughout the summer, during which pink hats were sold at every opportunity.  To date, the program has raised more than $70,000 for The Don and Erika Wallace Comprehensive Breast Program at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Institute. To date, the Pink Hat Project has been an immensely successful fundraiser.
