Tampa Bay Sports & Entertainment is delighted to support a wide range of charities and community organizations each year through the donations of in-kind merchandise.
In 2011, Lightning owner Jeff Vinik, along with his wife, Penny, launched the Lightning Community Heroes program to distribute $10 million dollars to deserving Heroes throughout the Tampa Bay community over a five year period. At each of the Lightning’s 41 regular season home games for the past two seasons, the Lightning Foundation has awarded a $50,000 check to a non-profit charity, totaling over $7,500,000 since the program’s inception.
The Lightning Foundation annually invites Lightning fans and members of the local arts community to submit pieces of original artwork to be hung for display in Amalie Arena. Submissions for the program's second year are currently being accepted.
Score With Reading presented by Bright House Networks encourages first grade students to read outside of their classroom at least 25 minutes per day, over a six week period and to keep “score” of their minutes read. This program motivates students to become "all-star" readers with reading milestones and the ability to win prizes!
The Lightning Foundation held the inaugural Bolts Family Carnival on Sunday, January 18, 2015. Held inside Amalie Arena, the Bolts Family Carnival featured carnival-style games on the event floor (Dunk Tank! High Striker! Darts!), modern games on the Promenade level of the arena (NHL 14! Wii! Ping Pong!) and unique photo opportunities.
