Lightning Hope To Extinguish Stars
Dallas Makes Only Visit Of The Season To Tampa Bay
The Tampa Bay Lightning will look to climb back on the winning bandwagon tonight when they host a rare visit from the Dallas Stars at the St. Pete Times Forum.
Tonight’s game will be the only meeting between these two teams this season and will mark the first return to Tampa Bay of former Lightning center Brad Richards, who was traded to Dallas on February 26, 2008. In return for Richards, the Lightning received starting goaltender Mike Smith
, and forwards Jeff Halpern and Jussi Jokinen.
Dallas has had remarkable success in the past when visiting Tampa Bay, and they will be seeking their ninth consecutive victory as a visitor to the area.
Tampa Bay, 14-21-10, are coming off a 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Florida Panthers on Saturday night. Tonight’s game will be the third in a five-game homestand, and the Lightning have won one game and lost one game so far.
The Lightning have been sparked by Martin St. Louis
, leading the team in points with 44 and Vincent Lecavalier
, the teams leading goal scorer with 19. Against the Panthers, both players hit the score sheet; Lecavalier had a goal and an assist and St. Louis had two assists to run his recent output to nine points in the last seven games.
The Stars (19-17-7) arrive in Tampa after a 3-2 shootout win against the L.A. Kings in Dallas on Saturday night. Three of their last four games have progressed to a shootout and the one that didn’t was an overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings.
Brad Richards and Mike Ribeiro share the team lead in points for Dallas with 36 while forward Loui Eriksson has the most goals for the Stars with 21. Eriksson is tied for ninth place in that category in the NHL.
Next up on the homestand for the Lightning will be Buffalo on Wednesday night, which will be the last game for Tampa Bay before the arrival of the four-day All-Star break.
