Big Story: Steven Stamkos added another goal on Monday against Philadelphia, extending his career-high goal scoring streak to six games. The streak ties him with Vincent Lecavalier for the second-longest mark in franchise history. He has scored eight goals in that span, and has totaled 11 in his last 12 games. For Toronto, forward Phil Kessel is expected to return to action against Tampa Bay tonight. He has yet to appear in a game this season after undergoing rotator cuff surgery during the offseason.
Team Scope:
LIGHTNING – The Lightning have earned 12 standings points in as many games. Projected over a full season, that would be a 16-point improvement from their 2008-09 total. Tampa Bay is also one of just three teams to gain at least a point in every home game this season (4-0-3).
MAPLE LEAFS - Back from a five-game road trip, Toronto went 1-1-3 with points in four consecutive games, although the final three were either overtime or shootout losses. Overall, the Leafs have lost 11 of 12 this season, and they had given up the first goal in every game until Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss in Montreal. They also have yet to win at home this season.
Who’s Hot:
- Steven Stamkos has scored eight goals in his last six consecutive games and has 11 for the season, which ranks second in the NHL. Stamkos is also tied for first among all NHL players with five power play goals.
- Martin St. Louis has recorded at least one assist in 10 out of his last 11 games.
- The Leafs’ Tomas Kaberle has netted two goals and has tallied 11 assists in his last five games. He also leads Toronto with 17 points.
- John Mitchell and Mikhail Grabovski have each recorded three points in as many contests.
Injury Report: LIGHTNING – None; MAPLE LEAFS – D Mike Van Ryn (knee, out for season).
Quotable: “We all know we can play better. We've got to play as a team. We know we can do it. We have the personnel, we have the coaching staff that prepares us for each game. We just have to go out and execute, especially on the road.” – Steven Stamkos
