After another stellar performance from both of the Lightning teammates, it’s easy to see why.

Stamkos and St. Louis prolonged their point streaks to 12 and nine games, respectively, with a pair of points in a hard-fought 5-4 loss to the Islanders that kept the Bolts from sweeping the four-game season series.

Stamkos scored in the first period for Tampa Bay, bringing the second-year forward just one away from the franchise record of 13 consecutive games with a point held by Brian Bradley, St. Louis and Vaclav Prospal.

“That’s what I want to keep doing obviously. Marty [St. Louis] and Downs [Steve Downie] are playing great too and it seems like we’re having a lot of success,” Stamkos said. “We just want to keep it up and it was obviously nice to get that goal.”

Mike Lundin, Nate Thompson and Steve Downie also scored for the Lightning, who fell for just the fifth time in the last 13 games.

The Islanders, meanwhile, scored three times in the second period on goals by Doug Weight, Kyle Okposo and Richard Park.

Park later netted the game-winner with his second goal at 17:38 in the final period, as the Islanders won for just the third time in the last 11 matches behind Martin Biron’s 38 saves.

New York’s Blake Comeau opened scoring at 7:31 after firing a shot past Lightning goaltender Antero Niittymaki following a Lightning turnover in their own end.

Niittymaki finished with 28 saves to move to 7-1-1 in his last 10 starts.

Stamkos knotted the score just under four minutes later while finishing off a tic-tac-toe play with St. Louis and Kurtis Foster.

 “I got it back off the faceoff and went to the net and Marty did the rest,” Stamkos added. “He put it right on my stick and I was able to get good wood on it and go five hole.”

Lundin padded the lead with a slap shot off the draw as the first frame came to a close to take a 2-1 advantage into the intermission.

Weight made the game 2-2 with a shot from the high slot to open the second period, but Thompson countered for Tampa Bay with a tip-in to regain the one-goal lead.

Okposo and Park each found the back of the net within one minute of each other to give New York a 4-3 cushion at 17:12 in the second.

“I thought we had a really good period. Obviously we scored three goals and came back, so I thought we skated really well, had our forecheck going, created traffic in front of the net and buried some rebounds,” Islanders defenseman Mark Streit said.

Downie pushed his career-high point streak to six games with a game-tying goal in the opening minutes of the third period, but Park iced the contest with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.
