Thursday, 11.13.2008 / 7:30 PMDefending Stanley Cup Champs Next Up For Bolts
The Tampa Bay Lightning return home from a five game road swing tonight to face the Detroit Red Wings at the St. Pete Times Forum.
This is the first and only meeting between Tampa Bay and the defending Stanley Cup Champions this season. This is also the first game of the season for the Bolts against any Central Division team.
Tampa Bay, 5-6-4, will be looking to get back on the winning track at home, where the ice has been friendly so far this season. The Lightning have earned seven points in their last six home games.
Martin St. Louis
and Vincent Lecavalier
share the lead in scoring for Tampa Bay, each with 11 points on the season. Lecavalier leads the team with six goals, followed closed by Jussi Jokinen with five.
For the Bolts, fresh off a 1-3-1 road swing, the game signifies an opportunity to take the measure of one of the best teams in the NHL. The Red Wings sport a 9-2-3 record and their 21 points has them at the top of the Central Division.
Marian Hossa, in his first year as a member of the Red Wings, is leading the team min points with 19, which ties him for fourth in the NHL. Henrik Zetterberg leads the Red Wings in goals scored with nine. The Detroit power play currently leads the NHL with a 33.3% success rate.
After tonight’s contest, the Lightning hit the road again, albeit briefly, for one game in Raleigh against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night. Then, they can unpack and settle in for a while; their next four games will be at home.
