The Tampa Bay Lightning battle the Colorado Avalanche tonight in the Pepsi Center in Denver.
The Lightning, off a hard-fought matinee loss yesterday in Minnesota, have done everything on the ice but finish with a win of late. Tampa Bay (6-9-7), will be seeking a return to the win column tonight.
Tampa Bay netminder Mike Smith has been outstanding all season. His .931 save percentage has him in third place overall in the NHL.
Captain Vincent Lecavalier continues to pace the Lightning in both points and goals scored with 18 and nine, respectively. Forward Ryan Malone has scored a goal in each of the last three games and has six points over the last four contests.
Colorado also played on the road Saturday, dropping a game in Phoenix to the Coyotes. The Avalanche (10-12-0) are lead by center Paul Stastny with 17 points and winger Milan Hejduk with nine goals.
Tonight’s match is the first of two meetings between the clubs this season, with the finale to take place December 18th, when the Avalanche visit the St. Pete Times Forum.
Tonight’s game marks the halfway point in the Lightning’s current three game road trip. After tonight, they head back east to hook up with the Philadelphia Flyers, before returning to The St. Pete Times Forum to host Boston and Buffalo.
