Sidney Crosby and Evegeni Malkin.
That’s a lot of offense for any team to handle, but even more so when they, along with the rest of the Pittsburgh Penguins, arrive at the St. Pete Times Forum needing only a win to nail down their third straight post-season appearance.
Tonight’s contest will be the fourth and final meeting between the Lightning and the Penguins this season, with Tampa Bay posting a 1-1-1 record.
The Lightning will be looking to foil the playoff aspirations of Pittsburgh, at least for a little while, as they seek to take the season series from the Penguins.
Martin St. Louis
, with 78 points, has locked up the scoring lead for the Lightning this season. Steven Stamkos
will be shooting to break the franchise record for goals by a rookie. He is currently tied with former Lightning winger Brad Richards with 21. Stamkos has collected a point in at least nine of his previous 12 games.
At the other end of the ice will be Malkin, currently leading the NHL in scoring with 108 points. He is also atop the heap in assists, with 74 on the season. Malkin has burned the Lightning for two goals and four points in three games against Tampa Bay this season. Just behind Malkin is Crosby, with 99 points. Crosby has 11 points in 13 career games against the Lightning.
For Tampa Bay, tonight’s game is the nest-to-last home game for the season. The Washington Capitals will come to call on Thursday night, and the Lightning will have one more road game, on Saturday the 11th, against the Thrashers in Atlanta.
