Last 10: Tampa Bay (1-8-1); St. Louis (5-4-1)
Season Series: Tonight’s game at the Scottrade Center marks the first and only contest between the two clubs this season.
The Big Story: The Lightning are looking to pick up their first win on their current road trip and hope to have forward Steve Downie and defenseman Victor Hedman back in the lineup against the Blues to assist them in accomplishing their goal. Downie suffered an upper body injury on Tuesday at Nashville and Victor Hedman aggravated his foot in practice on Wednesday. Both are listed as day-to-day, but neither played in the team’s last game at Detroit last night.
LIGHTNING – The end is in sight for the Lightning on their current six-game road trip, the longest of the season. After tonight’s game in St. Louis, the Bolts will travel to Long Island for a date with Islanders on Monday before returning home to the St. Pete Times Forum. The Lightning have been excellent in the second half of back-to-back games this season. Tonight's game wraps up the Bolts’ fifth back-to-back set this season. In the final match of games on consecutive nights, the Lightning are 3-0-1 and have picked up seven out of a possible eight points in contests against the Maple Leafs on Nov. 3, the Thrashers on Nov. 22, the Stars on Nov. 28 and the Islanders on Dec. 5. Captain Vincent Lecavalier will look to repeat his three-point performance of Tuesday’s game against the Predators in hopes of recording his 700th career NHL point. His current mark stands at 698.
BLUES – The Blues face the Lightning tonight for a one-game stint at home before hitting the road on Sunday for Vancouver, beginning a four-game set away from the Scottrade Center. St. Louis will try to get its offense back on track after falling to Chicago 3-0 on Wednesday. The Blues are 6-10-2 at home with the 10 regulation losses, the most in the NHL. They’re returning home after seeing their three-game road win streak snapped at the hands of the Blackhawks two days ago at the United Center.
- The Blues’ David Backes has four points in his last three games and T.J. Oshie has three points in as many contests.
Quotable: “I’m sure guys are trying, but you’d like to bang a couple home. It’s not one or two guys. We’ve got to get something from the defense, get a shot through. We have to get somebody in front. We need someone to have a huge night for us.” – Lightning head coach Rick Tocchet.
