Lightning (4-0-0, preseason) vs. Predators (1-2-1, preseason)
AM 970 WFLA
The Tampa Bay Lightning built a four-goal lead against the Nashville Predators en route to a 5-1 win Thursday, September 19 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Tuesday’s game in Nashville will be the second and final time the Bolts and Predators meet in exhibition play, before seeing each other on Thursday, December 19 at the Times Forum for the first time in the regular season.
The Big Story:
Winning four consecutive games September 18-21, the Lightning return to the road for the second of three road tilts this preseason. The Bolts have a chance to win their fifth-straight game, including a two-game sweep of the Predators in exhibition play, while Nashville looks to win their second straight game. The Predators’ loss to the Lightning on Thursday, September 19 was the third time Nashville’s lost in 2013-14 thus far, being outscored by its opponents 16-6.
LIGHTNING – Practicing at the home of their ECHL affiliate the Florida Everblades this week at Germain Arena in Estero, Florida, the Bolts head to Bridgestone Arena to play their fifth game in seven days Tuesday. Tampa Bay enters the contest as the only undefeated team in the NHL thus far, including two of four wins being decided in the shootout. Bolts prospects Brett Connolly, J.T. Brown, Ondrej Palat and Richard Panik are among 11 Bolts players who have tallied goals this year. Veteran Martin St. Louis also tallied his first goal on Saturday in his preseason debut. The Lightning’s training camp roster currently stands at 36 after reassigning 22 players on Saturday.
Nashville plays their second home game in three days and their last of the preseason Tuesday versus Tampa Bay. The Predators are coming off of a 2-0 whitewash of the New York Islanders, as netminders Carter Hutton and Pekka Rinne each saw time in net in the shutout.
After neither team managed a tally in the first period of Sunday’s game, Gabriel Borque netted what would stand as the game-winning goal three minutes into the middle frame. Austin Carter scored the insurance goal five minutes later for the 2-0 final. In the contest, fourth-overall pick in this year’s draft, blueliner Seth Jones, was given the third star of the game, accumulating 23:26 of total ice time.
Forwards Steven Stamkos (two goals, two assists) and Valtteri Filppula (four assists) currently lead all Bolts in points with four each. Brett Connolly leads all Lightning skaters in goals with three.
LIGHTNING – No Reported Injuries; PREDATORS – No Reported Injuries.
Originally drafted by the Predators in the seventh round (207th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, goaltender Anders Lindback spent the 2010-11 to the 2011-12 season with Nashville. In two seasons with the Predators, Lindback posted a combined 16-13-2-2 record.
