Bolts Begin Second Half In Edmonton
Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Edmonton Oilers

LIGHTNING (25-12-4) at OILERS (13-26-5)

Last 10:

Tampa Bay 7-2-1; Edmonton 2-6-2

TV/Radio:

Sun Sports/RDS2; AM 970 WFLA

Season Series:

This is the second and final meeting between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Edmonton Oilers this season. Netminder Ben Bishop made 38 saves in the first contest against the Oilers in a 4-2 victory with Tyler Johnson netting the game-winner.

Big Story:

The Lightning look for their sixth straight road win of the season Sunday at Rexall Place. It would be Tampa Bay's longest such streak since the 2007-08 season (January 8 at New York Rangers to February 7 at Nashville Predators).

Team Scope:

LIGHTNING – Completing the first half of the season with a point total one better (54) than their previous best set during the 2010-11 season (53) the Lightning find themselves at second place in the Atlantic Division and firmly entrenched in a playoff spot. The midway point was marked by a 2-0 shutout over the Calgary Flames, which tied Bishop for first in the league for shutouts (four), and save percentage (.936) and second in the league for wins (22).

While the numbers show Bishop has been a huge factor in the Bolts' success, so have their rookies. Through 41 games Tampa Bay rank first in the NHL for rookie points with 88. Center Tyler Johnson currently leads all rookies with 22 points and Ondrej Palat is second with 18 points.

Defenseman Sami Salo (upper body) is expected to return to the lineup Sunday in Edmonton.

OILERS – Despite exchanging goals nine seconds a part in the first minute of play, the Oilers went ahead of the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 in the first period Friday. Yet the Ducks scored four unanswered goals to continue their dominance at home in a 5-2 win. Edmonton brought Ilya Bryzgalov in to solve the Oilers woes in net, but he has just two wins (2-5-2 overall) since making his season debut with the team 11 games ago.

The Oilers have lost their first two tilts of the 2014 calendar year and four overall, being outscored by their opponents 18-9.

Who's Hot:

Forward Ondrej Palat has amassed two goals and four assists amidst a five-game point streak. If he manages a point tonight, Palat would tie the longest point streak by an NHL rookie this season.

Transactions:

12/31 – Reassigned F P.C. Labrie to the Syracuse Crunch (AHL)

Injury Report:

Lightning – D Keith Aulie (upper body, out), D Brian Lee (knee, out), D Sami Salo (upper body, day-to-day), F Steven Stamkos (broken right tibia, out); Oilers – F Jordan Eberle (knee, day-to-day), D Philip Larsen (illness, out), D Corey Potter (groin, out)

Twitter Stat Pack:

The #TBLightning's 25 wins through 41 games is a franchise record.
