Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Ottawa Senators

Bolts Set For Middle Matchup Against Sens

SENATORS (23-20-10) vs. LIGHTNING (31-17-5)

Last 10:

Tampa Bay 5-4-1; Ottawa 5-2-3

Sun Sports; AM 970 WFLA

Season Series:

This is the third of five meetings between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Ottawa Senators in 2013-14. Tampa Bay has taken the first two decisions, 3-1 and 4-3, which both came at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The Lightning have lost their past three games at Canadian Tire Centre and have only won once there since the beginning of the 2008-09 season.

Big Story:

Despite suffering a setback on the road the Bolts look to bounce back against their expansion cousins Thursday night in Ottawa. The Lightning have won nine of their past 12 road games going 9-3-0 during that stretch.

Team Scope:

LIGHTNING – After winning three straight games, Tampa Bay headed to Toronto with high hopes, especially with how strong they have been playing away from the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Neither team managed to score in the opening frame, but a pair of goals from Nazem Kadri quickly put things in the Maple Leafs favor midway through the contest. Yet the Lightning weathered the storm and found themselves tied with Toronto 2-2 by the end of the second. James van Riemsdyk sealed the Bolts fate, though, with just 4:03 remaining in the game.

Head coach Jon Cooper said after the game the loss "stung a bit" since Tampa Bay had a number of opportunities to score throughout the game. Maple Leafs goaltender, Jonathan Bernier, rebounded from he and James Reimer's past two performances, stopping 40 saves on the night.

Prior to Tuesday's game Steven Stamkos skated in a regular practice jersey during the Lightning's morning skate.

SENATORS – Recently recalled by the Senators Stephane Da Costa scored back-to-back goals, one on the power play, to help Ottawa to a 2-0 lead over the Columbus Blue Jackets early in the second. Columbus rallied with two tallies of theit own, but Jason Spezza scored another tally on the man advantage in the last five minutes of regulation to snap the Senators two-game losing streak. Ottawa currently boasts the best road power play in the league.

The Senators are 11 points behind the Bolts in the Atlantic Division standings.

Who's Hot:

Recording an assist on each Lightning goal Tuesday, Ondrej Palat is now riding a four-game point streak (two goals, five assists) with two multi-point games and a plus-7 rating during that span. Martin St. Louis has points in three straight games versus the Senators.

1/24 – Reassigned F Richard Panik to the Syracuse Crunch (AHL)

Injury Report:

Lightning – D Brian Lee (knee, out), F Steven Stamkos (broken right tibia, out); Senators – F Mark Stone (upper body injury), D Chris Phillips (lower body injury)
