Lightning host Flames aiming to boost playoff position
Calgary Flames vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

FLAMES (31-38-7, 69 points) vs. LIGHTNING (42-25-9, 93 points)

Fox Sports Florida; AM 970 WFLA

Last 10: Calgary 5-5-0; Tampa Bay 7-1-2

Season Series:

This is the second and final time the Tampa Bay Lightning will take on the Western Conference's Calgary Flames this year. In its last meeting, Tampa Bay netminder Ben Bishop earned his fourth whitewash of the season with a 2-0 shutout of the Flames.

Big Story:

The Lightning leap-frogged the Montreal Canadiens for the second seed in the Atlantic Division with its win against the Habs Tuesday. If the Bolts can finish the campaign in that spot they will receive home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Team Scope:

LIGHTNING – The Bolts knew what was on the line in Tuesday's game versus the Canadiens and with a little help from the Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils – both were handed losses – the Lightning clinched their first playoff berth since the 2010-11 season in a 3-1 success over Montreal. Though the Habs were handed a loss, they still managed to clinch a trip to the postseason too, meaning they are the most likely First Round candidate for the Lightning.

With that in mind, Tampa Bay quickly turned the page on the win and is focused on collecting points in the six remaining games on its regular season schedule.

After a hit from Douglas Murray that left Bolts' defenseman Michael Kostka momentarily motionless on the ice, it was announced Wednesday that he suffered a concussion and is out indefinitely. Murray is scheduled to have a hearing with the league Thursday.

FLAMES – Calgary is another team out of the playoff picture. Now they are spending the rest of the season evaluating their current personnel being out and last month the club proved they still have fight with wins against the Anaheim Ducks, Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks and New York Rangers.

There are five games remaining on the Flames' season slate and five chances to show off their talent to the Calgary coaching staff.

Who's Hot:

Forward Tyler Johnson's game-winning shorthanded goal ties him for the league lead in shorthanded tallies with five (Brad Marchand). Johnson also tied Steven Stamkos' franchise rookie record of 23 goals in a season. Fresh off being named March's Rookie of the Month, Ondrej Palat contributed two power-play assists in the Lightning victory.

Flames center Matt Stajan is on a four-game point streak (two goals, two assists).

4/1 – Signed F Adam Erne to an entry level contract; Assigned to the Syracuse Crunch (AHL)

Injury Report:

Lightning – D Brian Lee (knee, out), D Michael Kostka (concussion, out); Flames – F Markus Granlund (shoulder), F David Jones (shoulder), D Dennis Wideman (upper body)
