NEW YORK (AP) -- Jassen Cullimore knew he had plenty of room to score the winning goal, so he made sure he got plenty on the shot.
Cullimore scored 2:03 into overtime Sunday to lift the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers.
"I saw a lot of net, but I didn't look at it," the defenseman said. "I just shot it as hard as I could."
Rangers goaltender Mike Dunham stopped consecutive shots from Cory Sarich and Cory Stillman, but Cullimore converted the second rebound to Dunham's left.
The goaltender couldn't get across the crease in time to stop Cullimore's second goal of the season. He was impressive, however, stopping 37 of 39 shots.
"It would have been nice to win, but Tampa just kept coming," Dunham said. "The important thing, if there is a positive side, is we got one point. In the old days, you wouldn't have gotten anything. That really would have been a bummer to get nothing."
Alex Kovalev gave New York a 1-0 lead 4:06 into the game with his eighth goal. He sped down the right side of the rink into the Tampa Bay zone and took a wrist shot from the right circle that beat John Grahame high to the left side.
"That was a very good hockey game," said Grahame, who led Tampa Bay to its third consecutive road victory. "Both teams scored early goals, and both teams played well the rest of the way. Fortunately we were able to come out on top."
Tampa Bay tied it 1-1 on Dan Boyle's third goal at 6:37. Fredrik Modin put a sharp angle shot on net from the right corner that bounced off Stillman's skate into the slot, where Boyle swatted the puck past Dunham along the ice inside the right post.
The Rangers are two points behind the Lightning in the Eastern Conference. Tampa Bay leads the Southeast Division, and New York is one point behind the eighth-place New York Islanders.
"They're trying to catch us," Stillman said. "Teams that are eight, nine, 10 in the standings, trying to make the playoffs, you're going to see a playoff atmosphere when they meet, with a lot of hitting."
