TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The Tampa Bay Lightning honored former captain Dave Andreychuk with hard work and a victory.
Martin St. Louis had a goal and an assist to lift the Lightning to a 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.
Tim Taylor, Ruslan Fedotenko and Vincent Lecavalier also scored for Tampa Bay, which won for the fourth time in 12 games. It was the Lightning's first game since Andreychuk was placed on waivers Tuesday.
``With the situation with Dave, and Dave was a huge part of this team, the way it has gone we all take this personally,'' Taylor said. ``We all need to step up.''
The victory was coach John Tortorella's 143rd with the Lightning, which moved him past Terry Crisp for most in franchise history. The defending Stanley Cup champions, currently eighth in the Eastern Conference, trail Southeast Division-leading Carolina by 15 points.
``I don't think the team was distracted,'' Tortorella said. ``There's a lot of things going on around the club. I thought they played well.''
St. Louis gave the Lightning a 3-1 lead when he scored on a breakaway with 9:30 to play. After David Vyborny cut the Blue Jackets' deficit to one with 4:47 remaining, St. Louis assisted on Lecavalier's goal that gave Tampa Bay a 4-2 lead at 17:55.
``It was a couple tough days,'' St. Louis said. ``But you've got to move forward, and I thought we did that.''
Blue Jackets goalie Marc Denis made 35 saves.
``I think we just gave that game away in the third period ... I don't remember us playing a dumber period than the one we played in the third,'' Denis said. ``If we go back and forth with this team, we don't have a chance.
``I don't know what happened. I don't know how the switch in our brain went off. It's just the wrong way to play this game.''
Tampa Bay's Sean Burke stopped 22 shots.
Taylor put the Lightning ahead 1-0 on a rebound goal at 10:50 of the first. Taylor was chosen as one of three alternate captains after the Lightning decided not to name a new top leader to replace Andreychuk.
Fedotenko made it 2-0 on another rebound goal at 13:14 of the second. It was his first goal in nine games.
Nikolai Zherdev got Columbus within 2-1 on a power-play goal 31 seconds into the third.
``I think we made a couple of dumb plays that cost us,'' Columbus coach Gerard Gallant said. ``We were within a goal twice and we gambled a couple of times on the blue line and it cost us big time.''
Rick Nash had a six-game goal streak snapped. He had seven goals during the stretch. The Blue Jackets' left winger did extent his point streak to seven (six assists, 13 points) with an assist on Zherdev's goal.
``Tonight wasn't my night,'' said Nash, who had two shots and finished minus-2.
Notes: The other Tampa Bay alternate captains are Vincent Lecavalier and Fredrik Modin. ... Lightning associate coach Craig Ramsay, who underwent prostate surgery on Jan. 6, watched from the press box. He could resume bench duties in about a week. ... Nash has no goals and one assist in four career games against the Lightning. ... Tampa Bay RW Rob DiMaio returned after missing three games with a lower back injury. ... Columbus is 0-4 in road games against Eastern Conference teams this season.
