"We played so hard. Almost 50 shots on a team like New Jersey. It's like there's something stopping us from getting the win. Everyone worked so hard, Smitty made some big saves in overtime. They get that lucky bounce and bring it in. I don't know what it is. It's frustrating as a team and individually to know that the guys worked so hard and to have that happen, it's just bad luck. That's what it is, but so many positives in the game. I thought the second, 25 shots in one period was probably our best period of the game. I think we're starting to come together. We're showing life, we're going to be a team to be dealt with this season, just it's a matter of getting some positive bounces."
"I've been involved in the NHL for 25 or 26 years. I've been around a lot of goofy and bad things that have happened, but this is a top three or four for me. The guys deserve better. It's too bad. I feel bad for those guys in the locker room."
"I told Vinny [Lecavalier] after the game to keep these guys up. We've got no choice. It's only the third game of the year, and we've played two really good hockey games."
"These points are precious, and I know it's early, but these are tough ones. Hopefully we can get a couple of these in the year."
- Coach Tocchet
"Marty [Brodeur] saved the game, no doubt. You just look at what he did in the shootout and through the whole game. He made some great saves."
"We didn't react too well in our end. There were a lot of shots and we talked about that before the game. We know how [the Lightning] play. They have skills, they can make these types of plays and we weren't sharp on them at all."
